Alpine Pastures and Heritage

About

Visit our alpine pastures and heritage!

We love taking you to the alpine pastures where we ourselves spent time or worked during our childhood. So many memories to share with you!
Our preference goes to L’alpage de La Baronne in La Cure, La Dôle farm, or Les Frutières de Nyon, not far from La Givrine.

An ‘alpage’ is a high-altitude pasture. ‘Inalpe’ and ‘désalpe’ are the movements made by cows when they ascend to the alpine pasture at the beginning of the season and descend from it at the end of the season. The herd is accompanied by cowherds, shepherds (Jura Vaudois), or ‘armaillis’ (Pays d’Enhaut).
The St-Cergue ‘désalpe’, the largest in the Lake Geneva region, takes place every year at the end of September and sees the passage of all the herds, accompanied by their shepherds, coming from all the alpine pastures in the region. It’s an extraordinary spectacle not to be missed!
