This week consists of 5 days of climbing in the Vallée de Joux and surrounding regions. Our base camp is located in L’Abbaye. From here, we travel by minibus to the climbing areas in the region. This camp is designed for beginners and competent beginners.
We gradually train children in belaying methods, knots, and rock progression techniques. Accommodation is in dormitories at the S-Cal refuge with direct access to the indoor climbing wall for rainy days. Picnics are enjoyed outdoors at the foot of the climbing routes. Evening meals are taken at a large communal table, with children participating in meal preparation and household chores. Vegetables or fruits are provided daily, whether for picnic or dinner.
Day 1: Parents and children are welcomed at the S-Cal refuge in L’Abbaye at 11 AM, dormitory check-in, distribution of technical equipment for the week. Pont cliff: learning belaying and tying-in knots, familiarization with top-roping, first climbing steps on this superb cliff.
Day 2: Pontarlier cliff: easy climbing routes. An ideal spot for groups. Further climbing instruction, body balance, foot placement, progression rhythm, breathing, rock reading. First easy lead climb. At noon, children prepare a fire and grill cervelas sausages on sticks.
Day 3: St Loup cliff: slightly more difficult routes, easy lead climb. Magnificent view of the Nozon gorges.
Day 4: Aiguilles de Baulmes, multi-pitch routes (ridge climbing) with the best. Day 5: Tidying and cleaning the chalet. Lac Brenet cliff. Climbing, learning rappelling, return of technical equipment. Parents are welcomed for the children’s return home.
